Deepavali

  • Brooklyn Curry Project 383 Bridge St Brooklyn, NY, 11201 United States (map)

Deepavali is one of the most celebrated festivals across India. The festival of lights represents the rich cultural heritage and, most importantly, the strong sense of community and connection. It is one of the most significant festivals and goes beyond just religion: it signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. It's a time for introspection and self-improvement. The lighting of lamps signifies the removal of inner darkness and ignorance, guiding us toward the path of knowledge and enlightenment.

We used to decorate our home with colorful rangoli designs, make Kajjaya, indulge in mouthwatering traditional sweets, burst crackers and fill up the house with oil lamps. The festivities bring back cherished childhood memories where the whole family used to come together and remind me of the cultural values and heritage that have been passed down through generations.

Beyond its cultural significance, Deepavali brings communities together. It's a time when friends and neighbors from various backgrounds join in the celebration. The exchange of gifts, sweets, and the joyous spirit of Deepavali unites people, transcending cultural boundaries reinforcing the beauty of diversity and inclusivity. Deepavali, for us, is a reminder of the importance of family, tradition and the enduring connections. Would love to celebrate this joyous occasion with our extended BCP family!
